The two time Grammy Award nominated rapper Soulja Boy is currently working on his new album titled The DeAndre Way, which is his 3rd studio album. Release date is supposed to be August 25th, 2009. The first single from the new album is "POW" and the song is allready available on iTunes and YouTube. According to Soulja himself the new CD gonna be more personal then ever before. Featuring guests and producers on the new album is not known for the moment. But i'm sure we can expect Arab and JBar as guests. Soulja Boy - The Story
DeAndre Ramone Way more known as Soulja Boy was born in Chicago July 28, 1990. He became interested in Hip-hop music at the age of 14. Soulja Boy is active as a rapper, dancer, producer and he also owns a clothing label called Yums. He has a record label since '04 called "Stacks on Deck Entertainment" a.k.a. S.O.D. Money Gang Entertainment. Artists like J-Bar and Arab are at the moment signed to label, they are both childhood friends of Soulja Boy.
In November '05, Solja Boy uploaded a couple of songs on the music community Soundclick. He was given positive reviews by the listeners. Later on he created profiles on Youtube and Myspace for a larger and wider audience. In March '07, he recorded the song "Crank That" and released his first independent album Unsigned & Still Major: Da Album Before da Album. A video was made for "Crank That Dance" as well. By the end of May '07 the song "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" received its first airplay and Soulja soon hooked up with Mr. Collipark to sign a record deal with Interscope Records. The song appeared on the series Entourage in August 12, '07. Then shortly later the track topped the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Ringmasters charts. Souljaboy's major label debut album Souljaboytellem.com was released in the United States on October 2 peaking at #4 on both the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. At the 50th Grammy Awards, Soulja was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Song with "Crank That (Soulja Boy)". He didn't won though, the award was given to Kanye West for the smash hit "Good Life" featuring T-Pain.
Soulja Boy started up his own website Souljaboytellum.com which received 100's of visitors right away. This helped people hear Soulja's music. People were feeling what they said was cool and a different way of rap. He said he was from ‘Shylantaville’ or Shylantasippi’ when he was asked where he was from. All his fans thought that was so cool since he was from Chicago, Atlanta, and Batesville, Mississippi. He started doing shows once he lined up with Palm Tree productions. He was doing Sweet 16 parties, Skating Rings and Private parties.
Since then he has also started a Myspace account so the fans could get closer to him. He has broken Myspace history already by having around 700.000 views and over 2.5 million total plays on his page in just four months. He now averages 15.000-30.000 plays a day and around 1500-3000 downloads per day on his Myspace profile. With those kinds of numbers, it is hard for any other artist to touch him. He has been rated #1 on Myspace out of the 30 million artists. This is unbelievable! Many huge record companies have been trying to get him to sign like Sony and BMG. His favorite labels are G-Unit, Bad Boy Entertainment, So So Def, Koch Records and Def Jam.
He is well known for the so-called "crunk and snap" music. Rumours says that the whole debut album was produced with an demo version of FL Studio, more known as Fruity Loops. Soulja has been criticized by other artists in the industry for his music. Ice-T is one of them, go and search on Youtube for Ice-T disses SouljaBoy and also be sure to view the respond from Soulja as well. The whole situation is a lil' bit amusing.
